Abstract. The study of tensor calculus over semirings in terms of complexity theory was initiated by Damm et al. in [].Here we first look at tensor circuits, a natural generalization of tensor formulas; we show that the problem of asking whether the output of such circuits is non-zero is complete for the class NE = NTIME(2 o(n)) for circuits over the boolean semiring, ⊕E for the Author: Martin Beaudry, Markus Holzer. These two tensors will be used in the remainder of the book for several applications, including Maxwell's Equations. Field Tensors. We will define two field tensors, F and G, and we will define another tensor, σ, that we can use to generate one field tensor from the other. Every tensor can be expressed as a sum of simple tensors. The rank of a tensor T is the minimum number of simple tensors that sum to T (Bourbaki , II, §7, no. 8). The zero tensor has rank zero. A nonzero order 0 or 1 tensor always has rank 1.

Gabriel Kron ( – ) was a Hungarian American electrical engineer who promoted the use of methods of linear algebra, multilinear algebra, and differential geometry in the field.

His method of system decomposition and solution called Diakoptics is still influential today. Though he published widely, his methods were slow to be assimilated. At Union College a symposium Alma mater: University of Michigan.

Electronic Devices and Circuits II. This book, intended as a text for a first course in electronics for electrical engineering or physics students, has two primary objectives: to present a clear, consistent picture of the internal physical behavior of many electronic devices, and to teach the reader how to analyze and design electronic circuits.

A passage from Kron's book Tensors for Circuits is reproduced below to illustrate not only Kron's mastery of the subject of the analysis of machines but also an inkling of how electromagnetic devices and mechanical devices are different manifestations of the same fundamental geometric and physical phenomenon.

Variations on a theme. Back in I wrote a post called How to Conquer Tensorphobia that should end up on Math Programming’s “greatest hits” album. One aspect of tensors I neglected to discuss was the connection between the modern views of tensors and the practical views of linear algebra. These functions involve tensors of order 0, 1, and 2: c ∈ R, b ∈ Rn,andA ∈ Rn×n.

However, as soon as we move on to bilinear vector-valued or trilinear real-valued functions, we invariably come upon 3-tensors A ∈ Rn×n×n and the NP-hardness associated with inferring properties of Size: KB. I also like very much the chapter on the tensor product from Atiyah and Macdonald "Introduction to Commutative Algebra"; this one is abstract but very concise and clear. Circuits and Electronics. This note introduces the fundamentals of the lumped circuit abstraction.

Topics covered includes: resistive elements and networks; independent and dependent sources, switches and MOS transistors, digital abstraction, amplifiers, energy storage elements; dynamics of first- and second-order networks, design in the time and frequency domains; and analog.

But "A Student's Guide to Vectors and Tensors" (author Daniel Fleisch) is the first actual book I've found that (i) is pitched at a genuinely introductory level, assuming about first year university maths (ii) adopts an explanatory approach rather that the usual tedious 'endless succession of proofs' approach so beloved of many maths authors (think: Dover editions!).
